Isometric Game Assets
Isometric tiles, objects, and characters — diamond-shaped tiles, elevation levels, and depth sorting.
Overview
Isometric games use a 2.5D perspective where tiles are diamond-shaped and the grid runs at 45-degree angles. This creates a convincing 3D look while keeping the simplicity of 2D pixel art. The key challenges are consistent perspective across all assets, elevation changes (ramps and stairs), and correct depth sorting so objects in the foreground render on top of those behind them.
Step 1: Generate Isometric Tiles
Create the base terrain for your isometric world:
curl -X POST https://api.spritesynth.com/v1/generations/tileset \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"description": "isometric grass tiles, dirt paths, stone roads, water, fantasy style, isometric view",
"type": "isometric",
"tile_size": 64
}'Isometric tiles are typically double-width (64×32 for a 32px grid) to achieve the diamond perspective.
Step 2: Add Elevation Tiles
Create ramps and raised terrain for multi-level maps:
curl -X POST https://api.spritesynth.com/v1/generations/tileset \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"description": "isometric elevation tiles, grass ramps going up, stone stairs, raised platforms, isometric view",
"type": "isometric",
"tile_size": 64
}'Step 3: Generate Isometric Characters
Characters in isometric view face 8 directions (4 cardinal + 4 diagonal):
curl -X POST https://api.spritesynth.com/v1/characters \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"prompt": "pixel art isometric character, adventurer, brown cloak, carrying a backpack, 3/4 view",
"direction_count": 8,
"width": 32,
"height": 48
}'Tips
- Depth sorting order — Render order in isometric games: tiles first, then objects sorted by Y position (back to front), then characters sorted by Y position.
- Tile size conventions — Standard isometric tile sizes: 64×32 (small), 128×64 (large). Match your character height to the tile height.
- Consistent shadow direction — Include "top-left lighting" in your prompts to maintain consistent shadow angles across all assets.
