Aseprite Export
Export pixel art as .aseprite JSON format for import into Aseprite for further editing.
Overview
Export your spritesynth pixel art in Aseprite-compatible formats. Use the JSON export for manual import or the Aseprite extension for direct integration.

- Download the extension from the spritesynth dashboard
- In Aseprite, go to File → Sprite Size → Extensions
- Install the downloaded
.aseprite-extensionfile - Access spritesynth directly from Aseprite's menu
Importing JSON into Aseprite
Method 1: Script Import
Use Aseprite's built-in scripting to import the JSON:
- Open Aseprite
- Go to File → Run Script
- Select the spritesynth import script (included in export)
- Select the JSON file
- The sprite sheet and animation data are imported automatically
Method 2: Manual Import
- Export individual frames as PNG from spritesynth
- In Aseprite, go to File → Open and select the first frame
- Go to File → Import → Import Stack
- Select all frame PNGs in order
- Frames are added to the timeline
JSON Format
The exported JSON contains frame data and animation metadata:
{
"frames": [
{
"filename": "idle_0",
"frame": { "x": 0, "y": 0, "w": 32, "h": 32 },
"duration": 100
},
{
"filename": "idle_1",
"frame": { "x": 32, "y": 0, "w": 32, "h": 32 },
"duration": 100
}
],
"meta": {
"size": { "w": 64, "h": 32 },
"scale": "1"
},
"animations": {
"idle": {
"frames": ["idle_0", "idle_1"],
"fps": 8
}
}
}Exporting from Aseprite to spritesynth
The extension also supports exporting from Aseprite back to spritesynth:
- Open your sprite in Aseprite
- Go to spritesynth → Upload to spritesynth
- Choose a project and name
- Your sprite is uploaded with all layers and animation data preserved
Tips
- Export at 1x scale for pixel-perfect import into Aseprite
- Aseprite uses milliseconds for frame duration — spritesynth handles the conversion
- Layer data is preserved in the full project export
- Use the extension for the smoothest round-trip workflow
